1. Definitions
"Platform" refers to LagosRoommate (lagosroommate.com). "Lister" refers to users who list apartments. "Seeker" refers to users seeking shared accommodation. "Connection" refers to the exchange of contact details between a Lister and Seeker. "KYC" refers to Know Your Customer identity verification. "Escrow" refers to the fee paid by Seekers which includes lawyer property verification.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old with a valid Nigerian government-issued ID. The platform is intended for Lagos, Nigeria residents.
3. Account Registration
You agree to provide truthful information, maintain one account per person, and complete KYC verification before making or receiving connections. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account.
4. Platform Role — CONNECTOR ONLY
LagosRoommate is a CONNECTOR ONLY. We do not enter into, guarantee, or take responsibility for any rental agreements, financial arrangements, or personal interactions between users. We facilitate introductions between potential roommates — nothing more.
5. Listing Rules
Listers must provide accurate property information including location, rent, amenities, and photos. Fraudulent listings will result in immediate account termination. Discriminatory listings beyond stated preferences (gender, religion) are prohibited.
6. Payment Terms
Listers pay a one-time fee of 5% of the monthly rent split to publish their listing for 90 days. This fee is non-refundable once the listing goes live. Seekers pay a 5% escrow fee of the monthly rent split to connect with a Lister. This fee includes lawyer property verification. If the property is found to be fraudulent during verification, the Seeker receives a full refund. All payments are processed via Paystack.
7. Escrow & Lawyer Verification
When a Seeker pays the escrow fee, LagosRoommate dispatches a verified lawyer to inspect the listed property. The lawyer confirms the property exists, matches the listing description, and that the Lister has the right to offer shared accommodation. This service is included in the 5% escrow fee. Verification typically completes within 48-72 hours.
8. KYC & Verification
We collect government-issued ID documents and selfies for identity verification. KYC data is stored securely and accessible only to our verification team. We reserve the right to reject KYC submissions that do not meet our standards.
9. Prohibited Conduct
Users must not: create fraudulent listings, harass other users, use the platform for commercial real estate purposes, scrape data, impersonate others, or engage in any illegal activity.
10. Limitation of Liability
LagosRoommate is NOT liable for: roommate disputes, property conditions, financial losses between users, personal safety, theft, damage to property, unpaid rent, or any other matter arising from arrangements made between users. Use the platform at your own risk.
11. Dispute Resolution
Users must resolve disputes directly between themselves. LagosRoommate may offer mediation assistance but is not obligated to do so. For unresolved disputes, Nigerian law applies.
12. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, at our sole discretion, without prior notice.
13. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
14. Changes
We may update these terms at any time. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance.
